New Family Information
Welcome to Lee School! The Lee teachers, administration, students and PTA all work together to make Lee Elementary a great place to be. We are proud of our school, our events, our enthusiasm and our community spirit.
The following is a list of some of the great activities going on at Lee--it is extensive, but not necessarily complete. Since things change throughout the year, it’s important to stay informed. The easiest way to keep up with the PTA is to sign up for LeeMail to receive PTA information through your email. You also can “like” us on Facebook--we are listed as Lee Elementary PTA. It’s families such as yours that make our activities successful. Please join the PTA, and look for opportunities to help out.
Here are some of the great activities you and your children can look forward to at Lee:
Meet and Greet
This is the first PTA-sponsored event of the school year that allows students to meet teachers, tour the school, drop off school supplies, and buy a Lee spirit shirt. Families can buy PTA membership and sign up to volunteer for PTA events.
BareLEE Back Picnic
This evening celebration occurs shortly after school starts and offers a fun, informal time for students, faculty and families. The picnic is held on the playground - you can bring your own food or purchase food from the PTA. It is a great way to meet other Lee families.
LEEd Parents and Classroom Volunteers
Classroom volunteers help teachers in many ways. Each class appoints a LEEd adult who organizes volunteer opportunities, per teacher request. These can include helping with art projects, reading to students, administering tests, making photocopies, and volunteering at parties.
Laps for Lee
A terrific way to train for fall and spring running events! Students and adults are invited to exercise on the track Mondays, Wednesdays, and/or Fridays for 15 minutes before and/or after school. Laps are tallied, and students are recognized for their efforts in fall and spring assemblies.
This is the PTA’s annual fall fundraiser. Students acquire sponsors for running laps around the track for 30 minutes. It is a healthy way to raise money for our school, and the actual run day is spirited and fun for students. Family members are invited to come and cheer.
Lee invites all families to participate in the many runs Tulsa offers each fall and spring, including Race for the Cure, Tulsa Run, Zoo Run, St. Patrick’s Day Run, and Zarrow Run. Not only do these events raise money for good causes, but many also offer financial rewards to schools with the most number of participants. Students who participate in three runs each semester qualify for Triple Crown recognition.
This is a cool monthly activity for 4th and 5th grade students. Trained parent volunteers lead small groups of students with hands-on learning experiments in electricity, weather, heat, and energy, as well as dissections of hearts, lungs, eyes, brains, rats, sharks, and squid. Training provided to all volunteers.
Winter and Valentine Parties
These are classroom parties for the students. Each LEEd parent will organize the event and all parent volunteers will assist with crafts or games. PTA provides cookies.
This activity showcases Lee student talent - from singing, dancing, and musical instruments to martial arts and gymnastics. It is always amazing to discover the many talents of our students!
Scholastic Book Fair
Lee has two week-long book fairs, one in the fall and one in the spring. Volunteers are needed to help set up and take down the fair, and to sell books. Drawings, giveaways, and parties like Dads and Donuts and Moms and Munchies make the week extra-special.
Spring Trivia Night
Each spring, the PTA hosts a Trivia Night fundraiser. It is an excellent opportunity to spend time with adults (no children) in a relaxed, fun-filled evening, complete with food, trivia, and an auction of donated goods and services.
The PTA supports teachers and staff in many ways, which include providing home-cooked meals for occasions like parent/teacher conferences and winter holidays. Snacks are also provided for Monday staff meetings. A week-long celebration at the end of the school year, with food and prizes, completes the PTA’s year of support. Volunteers can contribute in many ways to teacher appreciation.
Students in 4th and 5th grades may participate in these music programs. Choir practices are after school, one time per week. Strings is held twice per week during the school day, and instruments are provided.
Cub and Girl Scouts
Lee has both Cub and Girl Scout troops. Girl Scouts starts in Kindergarten, and Cub Scouts in 1st grade.
To keep our families safe as they cross Cincinnati, Lee relies on parent volunteer to serve as crossing guards. Shifts are appointed monthly, and are either morning or afternoon for about 20 minutes.
